You got it 🙂. Driveshaft speed tells the ECU how fast the wheels are spinning in relation to how fast the car is moving so it can manage traction control. Acceleration will be monitored by a G-meter sensor.
most trans. have an output shaft sensor surprised it doesn`t use that input.

most trans. have an output shaft sensor surprised it doesn`t use that input.
unless for some reason you don`t have one.
does it use 5 volts like cars today or is holley using 12v supply.
I have a full race/manual T400. It doesn’t talk to anything. Voltage depends on what input it is. The Dominator uses them all.

Good news is…. All of the traction and wheelie control sensors are working. Two long days of wiring and programing these gizmos resulted in some interesting and fun stuff to play around with. With the car off the floor, turning the rear wheels resulted watching the computer show as little as a fraction of a mph. We got it up to three mph spinning them by hand. The ride hight sensor is a infrared laser that ended up pointing at the floor from a distance of 5.5 inches, fixed to the front cradle. Just rocking the front up and down resulted in showing the movement in fractions of a inch. As it turns out…. The front wheels leave the track at 12 inches so we get 6.5 inches of front end lift before the wheels are airborne. The bad news is…. It’s raining in Calif and our rental had to be pushed back until next Friday. It hasn’t rained there in like six years, and on the two days we want to be there…. Yeah they are. The more we’re learning about this world, it is astounding. Being able to balance track conditions with the power necessary to get down the track efficiently (and safely) is a challenge. We’re working with some people who specialize in this stuff with the X275 class and no-prep cars, and it’s amazing to watch one of these 3000hp cars run 3.xx 1/8 miles without wheelie bars. You have to see it to believe it 😳.

A sudden loss of traction at mid track or beyond can be a bad thing and that will be instantly recognized with front/rear wheel speeds. That is something that will also be monitored by the G-meter sensor. This is the reason for multiple sensor systems. They are used in different portions of the run. Switching from one to another during the pass.

Does that count revolutions per pass?
That’s what is called a Hall effect sensor. It is counting the magnetic pickup points on the ring that goes around the driveshaft yoke. There are 16 of them. The computer (Holley EFI Dominator) calculates the rear wheel speed from that data. It also knows how fast the car is moving due to the G-meter sensor and so… it knows if the wheels are “slipping”. It will pull timing until it determines that has been corrected and start adding it back. This all happens in milliseconds so you can’t even tell it’s happening.

My thought process was how can I take that data, and make it operate the car to run from point A to point B in a certain time frame down to .01 second.

^^^ pretty much already happens nearly every race at a track near you :)
The modern muscle cars (Hellcats) with their factory computers have their own versions of monitoring and controlling stuff, but much of it is working against you to prevent you from going outside their warranty safe limits. Many of the real drag cars at the track are using the Holley and other stand-alone ECU’s that employ a whole array of sensors to get down the track. To spectators they are just super powerful drag cars that go fast because of all that power. The invisible science of super computer technology is what really what gets them down the track.
