The $10k number was what some were guessing it was going to be priced at. Carlyle responded that it was going to be way less than that. When you consider that HD axles from DSS are $1600 and the Driveshaft is over $1000, if this comes in at $5000, that would put the whole conversion at $7600. The package cost of the DSS 9” conversion is...... (wait for it). $7600. I have no idea what this work of art is going to end up costing but for racers who have scattered multiple stock differentials and ended up on the trailer early on those days...... it starts looking reasonable.
Absolutely. Sometimes you can't put a price on aggravation or reliability or quality for that matter. For you guys that are putting that kind of power down repeatedly I'm sure it's. That's why a professional mechanic will go with Snap-on or Matco and I still have my Craftsman.

Carlyle is collaborating with DSS on this. It's designed for the DSS axles and driveshaft. I've seen mixed reviews on the DSS driveshaft. I know of multiple that have failed.
I believe Cole3986 mentioned this also on another thread, that's why he prefers the G force components. You guys (And OP also) are hardcore track guys so you would know the DL on this kind of info. That's why these forums are invaluable.

Absolutely. Sometimes you can't put a price on aggravation or reliability or quality for that matter. For you guys that are putting that kind of power down repeatedly I'm sure it's. That's why a professional mechanic will go with Snap-on or Matco and I still have my Craftsman.
While something like this (or either of the other 9” conversions) are not for most, the ones who have taken performance down to the very low nine second range and heading for eights with full weight cars that are not significantly lightened are not going to deal with repeatedly breaking the stock differential. Marc H with his 9.0 Demon went thru something like five of them before going with the DSS conversion. Now with hundreds of passes he hasn’t had one problem. I just installed that conversion in my build because I don’t need to repeat his experience to benefit from it. Yes these things are super expensive. So is hauling a car across country to run at a big event and breaking. The long tow back home with nothing to show for it but the $1000 expense is not very satisfying. I know some look at this stuff a waste of money by guys with too much of it. Apparently they have never been to the drags and looked at the Pro Mods and Outlaw cars. Lol. This is cheap by comparison.

The “new” DSS shafts having gone to the dual CV’s to address their seemingly never ending vibration issues, are now apparently breaking CV’s. Can’t win for loosing. 😂. The shafts that come with these conversions are not those. Good old fashioned u-joint at the differential.

Yeah. I have a DSS 4” aluminum for over a year and haven’t had any issues with it either. Just like motors... luck of the draw. The big deal with this announcement from Carlyle is the 2.75 and 3.00 Pro gear sets. Those are what all the 9” guys have been waiting for to use with the A8. According to Carlyle they have managed to have those made for them and and will be available thru them. Those have been rumored for some time now and apparently Carlyle is making it happen. These Pro gears are not for street driving (at least not daily driving) but are pretty much unbreakable. At this point whine isn’t really a concern. 😂

Word. I like driving my car to the track, really gets the race car guys when they see me roll in with AC and cooled seats and pull tires outta the trunk LOL.

For as beautiful as this is, there is a reason Dodge put a solid axle under the Drag Pak cars: reliability.

This is the same reason that I scrapped the idea of using a 30 year old 8.5" GN diff in my wagon and went straight to a Strange S60. Brand new, beefy, and no worries.

This is the same reason that I scrapped the idea of using a 30 year old 8.5" GN diff in my wagon and went straight to a Strange S60. Brand new, beefy, and no worries.
I considered going with the Drag Pak setup for the unarguable benefits of that vs the IRS. But.... mine is still (and will continue to be) a street car. To go with the solid axle setup you have to remove the stock gas tank to attach your links and all that. Think about running a 10 gallon fuel tank in the trunk with 100 mile full to empty range. Lol. Changed my mind.

Same reason I put the Dana 60 in my Big block '57 Chevy. But then I couldn't get the gears I wanted with the Doug Nash 5spd . With the Doug Nash (3:27 1st) I wanted a 2.75 or 3.0 final rear gear. All you can get with Dana 60 was 3:55. So I put a Ford 9" in it anyway. It's like Mark W said, "can't win for losing".:LOL:

Carlyle. They just pre-announced it on FB. No price yet but he said way less than $10k. Not sure how much “way” is. The BIG news is.... he said he has 2.75 and 3.00 9” Pro gear sets. Again, not sure if those are only available with this complete conversion or possibly separately.
Being a Ford 9", would they not be incompatible with stock pumpkins?

No they are not compatible with the stock rear end. You have to do a complete conversion like this,,,, 1E403562-0A8A-4C1F-A72A-791990F9807B.jpeg

That's a reasonable question, and one that I have had as well. Given the cost of the conversion, it seems to be very expensive for that center section, and since Ford 9 inch rears are very plentiful, I have a hard time understanding the high cost of that center section. Welding on some additional mounting brackets shouldn't run the cost that high either.
Now...before the flaming starts....I'm not a diff expert, nor do I claim to be one. I have a ton of friends that have Ford 9 inchers in their various cars and they're based on the standard Ford 9 inch pumpkin with various axle tube arrangements welded on.
For this conversion, there are no axle tubes or brake concerns, etc. It basically stops at the housing. So where does the high cost come from?

I'd like an 8 3/4 conversion and use 3.23's. or maybe the 9 inch and either 3.25 or 3.31 gears.
8 3/4 3.23 gear sets are a dime a dozen......I know where multiple sets sitting on posi units are right now. Of course I would want a nice Auburn posi unit for my conversion.
May a big part of the expense in this is the connections from the diff to the axle stubs. Maybe those have to be specially made.

My POINT was, someone talked about the ring and pinion gears, and it was THOSE I was asking if they were not compatible with the beefier housing.

Wow, those catalysts roasting the rear half shafts.... Is the in-use airflow such that the exhaust tips succeed in pointing their airflow downwards?

That rear end is downright porn... er, PHOTOGENIC it's so tough and industrial-grade.
