2021: I read Adrenaline Rush’s post about him hitting 203.7 at Loring Land Speed Trials at Loring AFB in Limestone, ME. The idea that there is (are) venues to drive your car WOT for a mile or more, legally, safely, and for very reasonable $ ($450), seemed like a no brainer. Especially since there is a class for Supercars, production cars that are designed and built for high speeds, and the track requirements Supercars are minimal, barely more than the dragway. (You also need a fire extinguisher and leather gloves.)
I first attended in Sept 2021, and have attended every event since.
Since I got my license at 16, I wanted to go fast. Got into a lot of trouble, but never caused any serious damage. Land Speed Trials seemed like a Gift from God!!!
I thought I was like everyone else, and everyone else was like me. Seems that everyone likes to drive fast and enjoy the thrill. But apparently, I am very wrong…
For 4 years I have been spreading the word about Land Speed Trials. And it is not just Loring, events are held in several places including TX and AL. In all my threads and posts, I have only recruited ONE new racer, and he became immediately addicted.
Obviously I don’t understand people. Beyond the people who were interested, there were at least 6 who seemed serious, for a while, then they all faded away.
What is it with people??? Something almost in your back yard, an opportunity to drive faster than you every have, a LOT faster! But no one makes the step….
I just don’t understand…
