I had the ic chiller installed on my car is it normal for the water tank to be above full? Every time I try to just check it and try to take the cap off the water try's run out of the tank. I also have the aux. tank also.....I'm not complaining it works great. But you know how it is sometime your just messing around and check stuff out just because. I know the guys that installed it done a great job but why is it always so full? You can crank the car up and it'll go down some but it's under pressure so you can take the cap off then.

Think when the pump runs it draws fluid from the tank so the level goes down. Then when you turn it off the pump stops and the level goes up.

Not to mention the coolant expands when it gets cold and contracts under heat. That would change the levels too.

Just send it.

So it ok for a system to be above the full point? It must be ok though I know the guys that done the chiller are one of the best shop for our cars. When you get older sometime I guess quit guessing and take it for what it is....lol damn I still miss the dual point distributor's,4 bbl carbs. being able to check darn trans. fluid. Not to mention drive-in's and pulling up to a Shoney's and have car hop come out and place the tray on your rolled down window. And the cars making circle to draw out a race Not to mention we had the best music! I know I'm through reminiscing. Thanks for your answer covidcommander

The system is pressurized. So when you take the cap off yes - it will go above full

How above full is it? I wouldn’t worry about it - if it’s too full it’ll drain out

You should be worried if it gets below full, which would mean there’s a leak

yeah I have thought about that...it has the tank all the way to the top and if you crack the cap it will run out. I have my own vacuum fill kit and have thought about drain it and redo but I completely trust the shop that do the work. I have thought about opening the cap and let the xtra run out....but then if I hook up my vacuum kit and pressure it up it will only draw more out? It Definity not low or from what I can see and no drip's on the concrete.

And to if I was to vacuum up to 25" on the system it could maybe cause a leak

As long as the IC pump isn't short cycling due to excessive air being trapped by the pump, I wouldn't worry about it. Because the coolant gets so cold, the level changes more than if you didn't have a chiller. It shouldn't hurt anything by being full after it warms back up to ambient temps. It never has for me.
