And that just destroyed its relevance. MSRP will probably be 85-$90+ with anything good in it, but dealers will mark them up $20-50k and nobody who should be buying these will buy them. F-ing BS if you ask me, because I'd be interested until the dealer markup BS/rarity crap ensues.
I wouldn't sweat it. If it sells well, it'll last more than one model year. They said that about the demon, and for all intents and purposes........they just released it again. With a hellcat hood and badging. Other than that........the super stock is just a demon. Had I bought one in 2018, I'd be one angry person right now. Comes down to: do you want the car and all that it is? Or just the name? But I don't see a hellcat Durango being a good seller.

I just finished watching the reveal. I guess my expectations were a bit higher, but that may be because SRT has spoiled us with huge horsepower and crazy performance for the past few years. People saying take it up to 900HP forget that pump gas is only good for so much and 900HP is beyond the limits, especially for 91 octane these have to be designed for while passing emissions.

Durango Hellcat is pretty cool, but not surprised it's a one year run. The Trackhawk sales were dismal. R&D on these cars is several years in the making, so they've been working on the Durango Hellcat for a while, and when Trackhawk sales were awful they were probably like, oh crap what do we do now. Hey make it a one year deal and people will think it's limited like the Demon. Dodge has played these games since 2008 when the Challenger came back. It was supposed to be a one year numbered deal, and the only year for Hemi Orange. Then look what happened in 2009 - the car was improved dramatically and yep, Hemi Orange available too (I bought one).

Never did see the 8950 HP number explained. I also don't understand the 4 door Charger RE as it's a family sedan, but if it sells why not.

Minus the HO 840hp, minus the hood, minus the crate.

Fixed it for ya... :)

What kind of NHRA racing are you wanting to do?
Factory stock? Super stock? Stock? Brackets?
The 1320 falls into NHRA B/SA. I would have thought the "Super Stock" model would fall into a super stock class, either in with the old school super stockers or the Factory SS class with the Drag Packs, etc. However, in saying that, no way would it run with the Drag Packs right out of the box. They run in the 8s I believe...

Yeah, what you said...
I was under the impression that the '8950' was the total combined HP of all the vehicles they will be making. SXT/GT+SP+HC+RE+SS across the various platforms... just a shot in the dark.

One thing that the reveal was unclear on was the suspension set up on this new supersport. The RE was not marketed as a 100% drag purposed car (like the Demon) so does it have the drag specific suspension the Demon has, or just the tires/wheels/brakes.

I think Tim pushed this to the very edge of what SRT will do to get this Demon-like. He specifically mentioned not doing another Demon but even he has to know if they add any more (race gas tune, hood), then he/SRT will get pushback. And they probably don't want to -completely- piss off the Demon "brotherhood". Ha!

In all honestly, knowing that the Demon is STILL at the top of the big three totem pole three full years after being built is pretty crazy imo given the insane HP wars we are experiencing. I didn't think Dodge would do that (and clearly F and GM are well behind). For all three I think it's mostly practical (re: emissions). It's just not that easy to get more than 800hp on 91 octane fuel -without- supplying a second chip/tune/better gas. And I'll go on record here as saying race fuel won't be a 2022+ add on to any Redeye follow on. Too complicated (multiple tunes, no crate to piggy back on). Also not worth it given the very limited volume of cars and added headache of walking back "one year for Demon" only. Could they do it? Probably. Will they and is it worth it? Yeah, probably not.

That said, once they go to the next-gen platform and include electrification in some way, I'm sure we see 900, 1000hp on top end variants (Charger too). For me though, its ALL ICE or no go and I'd be more than happy if the Demon can hang on to that specific King Kong mantle. Electrification is cool, but for a performance car, it's just not for me.

Yeah we've been doing that math and nothing adds up yet.

You could solve that problem for $1 with the Demon... how exactly are you solving it with the SS?
Solve it for free like everyone else. No one really goes 169+mph very often lol. Maybe a few but I dont really see this as much of an issue.

I read the reason the SS is rated at 10 more hp is because the engine has a different calibration and the redline where max hp is calculated at is 6400 now instead of 6300 rpms.

Just like the magic 717 vs 707. Really all the same, just measured 100 RPM higher.

Maybe with their current offerings... but it is far from impossible to make 900hp on 91 and still pass emissions. Can they do it with the HC/RE motor? Probably not, but next gen platform could absolutely pull that off. It would take a redesign, which is coming anyway.
Maybe more exotic materials, DOHC, and turbos? Who knows... but it isn't that far off and we're using HEMIs with decades old technology.

Then get the one without the sticky tires... that's the trade-off.

DRs can't MPH like a Pirelli.

Exactly. I think that's the way to go.
