Full disclosure. I did this run on the street at 2am in the morning. Gandy Bridge from St Pete to Tampa to check for LEO, then u-turn it for the run back. Absolutely no traffic.

It was effortless to get to that speed and brake down to be 55mph-ish by the time I was off bridge. Length of bridge is 5 miles.

You needed 707 HP (and 5 miles) for that?

I work nights, so the highway is nice and empty when I come home. Even with a meager 485 HP it didn't take long to do this and brake back down to more legal velocities.

I suspect that it wasn't a maximum-effort run, just what he was comfortable with?

You're not gonna go much faster where I live. St Pete City grid. 45mph max limit and lights every 1/2 mile. Interstate I-275 way too busy(and curvy). The Gandy is the only place to get a run and Florida Highway Patrol knows it and hangs out there regularly.

I'd have to go way outta town or the proverbial "take it to the track" like Sebring for a safe and legal run.

Probably. So was mine, really. Although my V-max is supposed to be only 171. These cars are so easy to get up to felony numbers. I can't imagine having 200+ HP more at my disposal. Just friendly ball-busting. I'm sure most of you would mop the floor with me if we ever met on the street (assuming an empty, straight highway. Racing in traffic is no bueno).

Not that most everybody here doesn't already know this about driving these cars, but I'm WAY more comfortable at ~175mph on a nice wide runway than I am at 125mph on a back-country road, even nice straight ones.

The crown in the road, bumps, heaves, unknowns, more unknowns, etc.

You know the drill.

Well, and then there's the possibility of having a less than understanding LEO to contend with...

Back country road at those speeds? Hell no. I did mine on a 4 lane straight, empty highway. Even then, I'm lucky no wildlife wandered out there. I wanted to verify the 171 max, but I was also approaching a rise in the road so I shut it down since I couldn't see what might be waiting on the other side. That was the one and only time I had all the appropriate conditions to give it a go.

The graph? That’s my Gtech GPS timer unit. Uses a 50 Hz military grade GPS sensor, can be accurate to 12” tracking 7 satellites, even more accurate the more satellites it’s locked on to. I’ve compared it to track timers many many times, always within +/- .005 seconds of track timers. It’s my practice tool, especially now with tracks closed.

Left over from having grown up in Vermont, that was all you had...

Maybe I'll get a short clip going...

Maybe...
