I got this battery tender and it's been amazing. Not the cheapest but works on all kinds of batteries and is small in size so easy to store.

Wouldn't hurt to have a large one outside the car, too, in case you're not in it when the lithium battery decides to go up in (hard to extinguish) flames.

My wife thinks I'm nuts...fire ext. every 8ft in my shop..mancave.. and bar...witnessed a friend loose his p/u truck and garage to a relatively small fire that got outta hand quickly because of no ext.

My battery was dead when we got to a MSHS event in Orlando. A friend of mine somehow got through the fold down backseat and was able to open the trunk.

If you want the battery to last longer
Disconnect it
Then close the trunk lid

Better, just pass out extra batteries for everyone to carry along just in case.

I usually get over 10y out of a battery using the HF $7 float charger in the off season. Here is the battery in my tractor.

I have almost 15 years on the OE battery in my tractor, and 11 years on the OE battery in the small one. What I don't have is the balls to leave anything HF plugged in without me being there.

Okay, in all fairness, the battery in the M6040 has had a Canadus desulfator on it since early on, but the little L3800 has never been treated to anything special at all (no maintainer, no desulfation) and it lives outside.

Hmm. It's almost as if batteries live longer when not subjected to HF float chargers.

I put my trickle charger on until the battery is fully charged
Leave it 1 additional day & take it off for a month
Rinse repeat

I left it on my Harley over the winter & it dried out my battery
Its 1 amp

I don t trust this shit

You can buy a bracket for the extinguisher that bolts to the seat frame. I had 1 in the Charger. Never got in the way of the passenger.

That's the difference between the real thing and cheap ones. A good maintainer can be left on indefinitely and will charge (maintain) as needed. No more, no less. It doesn't matter if it's capable of putting out 0.5 Amps or 5.

My '17 Ram 3500 can sit for up to six months at a time and has a PulseTech maintainer on it when parked. On trips it has a Canadus hooked up, so it always having desulfation. That maintainer and the Canadus aren't cheap, but neither are the two batteries.

Basically, I try to keep voltages as constant as possible, avoiding adding cycles to the batteries. There are only so many cycles in a battery's life, and the lower the fluctuations and the fewer the cycles, the better. Vehicles living outside have 10W solar panels, so there are daily voltage cycles, but at least the're very shallow ones.

The 'Cats and a couple of other batteries have BatterMINDers hooked up when in the garage, 24/7, and those are a very affordable. Have used those for decades with very good results, and trust them to be on at all times, in different buildings.
