About 20 years ago I went to Egypt for a couple weeks, my wife has family there. (She is a likely decedent of Cleopatra and has her eyes!) When we landed, we got into a taxi (Fiat 128) and the travel veterans insisted I sit in the front passenger seat. After 12hr of travel and lots of drinks on the way, I was pretty pliable.
Once we left the airport and got into “normal” Cairo traffic, my adrenalin brought me back to full conscientious! I started to notice things, like everyone was constantly beeping their horn, every car had ripples on every exposed surface, the car on each side was maybe 2” from the taxi while were doing 50kph through a traffic circle!
Several times a traffic cop would come out to stop traffic and no one would pay attention, it appears that the rule was “if you can get by without hitting the cop, it’s ok!”
In my youth I have ridden with many crazy drivers, but in Cairo, I closed my eyes for the ride!
