The market for the older drag packs are all over the place. You never know what you can get for one.
They were hard to get in 2009, I had a dealer offer me his allocation from the LA area but after I figured out the build cost beyond what you get I had to pass as I would be $130k plus in the car to be finished and track ready.

They were hard to get in 2009, I had a dealer offer me his allocation from the LA area but after I figured out the build cost beyond what you get I had to pass as I would be $130k plus in the car to be finished and track ready.
Someone was saying that it takes $100-$150K to make the 2021 car even competitive after you got it from Dodge?

Part of it.
Had to prove you raced too.

Original DP's were for stock and super stock classes. Only built 50 of them to get Mopar guys a race car.
I don't think that is enforced anymore which is a shame because collectors swoop in and buy them up. But it doesn't make sense because all big 3 release new versions every few years with better technology. And these cars are not bound to CAFE standards

If you want to be competitive in Factory Stock, probably true.

Simple SBC for stock. Starts at 27k!!!! Your bone stock Hellcat crate engine makes more power than this.

Lot of rules and restrictions in class racing drives the price up.
Look at it this way - 50 guys go out and buy a Drag Pak and go race. Perfect world, those cars all run within .001 of each other.
But you already dropped what 145k for your DP. You want to win.
So you pull the engine and start poking around on how to make it faster.
You look into the drive line, where can i lose some resistance.

Is this suspension ideal? Can it be better?

Its an arms race.
And if you think Dodge Demon ET record drama and bitching is bad, go hang out in the NHRA sportsman camp for a few weeks.

FSS and FX are very near Pro Stock in the level of "commitment" required if you want to have a chance to win. Besides the initial 6-figure car purchase, then another 100 grand or so in mods & upgrades & inventory to get started, then you better have a rotation of 2-3 spare engines (from a top builder for approx 80 grand each), because they lean on them HARD. If they don't blow before 20-30 runs, then its refresh time. Rinse. Repeat.

The older drag packs are bracket or index cars. Shame you can't drive them on the street.

Pretty sure aluminum rods in those babies. They are on a pitch count for sure.

I had a buddy get real serious in the no prep/grudge stuff. I think his procharged bbc could get 20 passes then they pulled them and trashed them.

Its not a poor man's sport at all.

Slow is fine if its deadly consistent
