I'm not sure. The track has gotten a little interesting to work with since Dallas passed. I looked at an alternative and was quoted a ridiculous daily rental rate. Think 5 digits!

For the Demon to run "well" it's also gonna take good radial prep, which is rare. I think a lot forget that variable. I'm expecting to have to pull a lot of power at Beech Bend.

My educated opinion is that if a team of engineers is told by their boss "I wanna sub 9 second pass" that team is gonna do whatever it takes to get there and have access to all manner of tools to do it. Woulda be nothing for them to play with the tune a bit, etc, I mean they have 100% access which not even aftermarket gets us. Make it believable enough and let folks chase it adding to the legend of the car, great marketing.

It's what I'd do.

A lot of people actually believed the demo car ran 8.91 at 151 at the Vegas reveal and didn't think about that just being programmed in to the timing boards for marketing.
A person who was in the tower when that pass at the reveal was made; told a friend of mine that it ran a 9.30. That was with the DA close to +5,000 ft. There's no way they could have posted up that time. The public would have never understood the reason it ran that time; which was what an 8.90 car would have been expected to run in that DA.

I’d like to see someone get in the 8’s with the factory original everything including the tires. Is it even possible?

I'm working on it. Mine's optioned up so I'm not expecting anything earth shattering but we'll see what it does.

I planned to run it in 9.50 classes at MSHS but they eliminated 9.50!
Eliminated Heavyweight too!

The two races I attended had 10 plus in HW. and they cancelled Cecil, it would have had a great turnout too. FL and MI had low HW count the rest did not. they could have dropped it to a HW 1/8 class to keep the heads up competition alive, and stay within the safety rules. With keeping the NT crowd still interested.

they also added a stick class for every event. Booted the entire HW field and added a stick class. tell me how they will fill that class?

Don't see a stick class being very big

We had manual class at ChallengerFest and only had 3 - 4 cars at most for all the years I ran it. I eventually eliminated it and told stick guys if they wanted to throw money in a pot and race for it I'd set it up at the event. I thought the 9.50 class woulda had several cars in it though. 10.00 was fun but the Jeeps ruined it with the AWD and two steps or whatever. Should just have a separate Jeep class IMO. Jeep guys said they used to run 9.50 but got tired of breaking the Jeep every other pass so they backed down to 10.00.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the Demon now. Maybe try to slow it down to 10.00? I don't think mine will be fast enough for 9.0.

I personally think the move to 9.0 was right as that's just a stock demon or lightly modified hellcat class. should be an easy class to fill for those who like bracket racing. I'm not about having to get on the brakes to run a number. I want to race the car beside me and see who can win. Not see who can sandbag the best.

It wasn't a "move" to 9.0 it was an elimination of 9.50. So it's 8.50, 9.00, 10.00, 10.50, 11.50, and 12.50.

I hate to say, but @RGPIII you're in the minority of owners of this car. I had an "Unlimited" class that was a heads up basically no limits class at ChallengerFest and never had anyone interested. We'd have 1-2 owners and then a couple of shop cars. I eliminated that one too. Had $1000 payout to the winner, $750 2nd, and $500 3rd. People just don't wanna buy a $70K car then put another $40-$50K in it to be competitive. Can't say I blame them. If I were going that route I'd buy like a 2017 or 2018 R/T and turn it in to whatever I wanted. Andy Wagner got a bad ass turn key car for $80K I think and it'll smoke just about anybody I can think of easily. Looks great too. Started life as a 2009 SRT8 Challenger I believe but has body panels and interior that look like a Hellcat.

The 170 isn't gonna be a 9.0 car on average. 9.50s is where it'll be IMO. All these low 9 and high 8 runs are in pretty good DA on very well prepped tracks so far and not in an actual race. Just time chasing. I don't see many if any Hellcats regularly running 9.0s. There are a few, but they're pretty modified cars and definitely not the norm.

Speedy,

First you have to have an event, then comes the bitching about the classes/rules. Then after beating on your ear, some will not show up for the event. Its a beautiful thing.

They have never had a 9.0 class in the past this is the first year of it. so that was my reasoning for saying the move from 9.5 to 9.0.

Cant agree there the NT and heads up classes, they are selling out already for Street car bragging rights and SCT. There is a huge turnout at those events for it.

My car with the stock engine and 3.0 Whipple was a very consistent 9.0 car. Went 8.9 in 800DA and 9.0 in 2500 DA. Now days the norm is ported blower on E-85 with at least ID1300's that is an 9.0 package. We had a local guy with a stock blower and a 75 shot go 8.7.s. these cars and tuning have come a very long way this year. 2024 will be the year for many cars in the 7's.

I was gonna say SCT and FL2K and events like that are probably what you're going to race in if heads up is what you're looking for. Don't see many Challengers at those, at least what I've watched which admittedly isn't much. Lots of carnage at those events, no wonder people watch it. Joe Public loves the drama

We'll see what 2024 brings. Last year is a blur but I don't remember seeing many Challenger/Chargers running 9s. Most compete in 10.00 classes that I've seen anyway which is a good happy spot for them IMO. Much below that and engine upgrades become a necessity IMO.

Yeah, the 55 height is somewhat “new”, not a lot of people running them. Wonder how much of a difference it makes. I have the 315/50r17
