Those cars were cool for the late 80 and cheap but not now. I would look for a Shelby csx shadow before that

Very cool cars. There's a bazillion Road Runners and GTXs. This is a rare one that's actually pretty fast with a top speed around 140.

I can’t remember which Dodge Carroll Shelby was referring to prior to his modifications, but I do remember his quote. “It didn’t have enough power to pull a greasy string from a dead cat’s ass.” Quite a character.

We had a base, 4 speed Omni with no ac. It was a pig.

Wife was driving it. Came home 1 day and said that it was enough, she needed a different car.

I was in the used car biz and she walked over and pointed to a Taurus. Said, this one.

I had a '86 GLH Turbo for 14 years from new. At the time I worked at Comp Cams and did the cam for their Super 60 kit. I built up my car with a Turbo II conversion I got off Shelby in Whittier, CA for super cheap and got a little over 300 HP based on similar combinations like the Super 60 kit. I autocrossed it, drag raced it and did track days and had a blast. I even added the GLHS speedo sticker to go past 85 MPH. Got it up to a calculated 147 MPH once late at night in Mexico.
Very fond memories and a super unique car with those mods.
Even after 14 years I literally never changed the rear drum brake shoes but I'd go through front pads and all 4 tires each year or more frequently. Tires were so much cheaper back then.

I know, it looks like a shit-box little Omni, but the car was hella fun to drive, cheap to buy/maint/ins, didn't draw any attention from LEO's & smoked a lot of much more expensive/upscale cars in it's class (hot hatchback).

The other one ppl scoff at was the V8 Gremlin (they were 301's or 304's) - also a car that was just a hoot to drive, but never got noticed.

My old G35 was another that fell into the 'fun to drive' classification - even the wife loved driving that thing, can't explain why but it just was fun to drive !

My 1974 1/2 260Z would smoke Corvettes and Trans Ams. Pissed off plenty of people. Everyone thought it was a piece of Japanese junk.

Key with those was keep the carbs in tune ! I had a 300 ZX Turbo with some mild mods (exhaust, CAI, 3psi boost increase + tune & semi-competition clutch). I beat the everloving crap out of that car for 9 years and the only thing that broke was the a/c compressor. Got back 2/3's of what I paid when I sold it in 2002.
