I've seen some questions posted about using E85 for those of you considering it. I posted a similar set of pics on the Geico forum, but for those of you wondering just how clean E85 burns and its effect on oil.

Here's another oil change on E85, 3100 miles on this change, look at how clean the oil is. For those of you that change your own oil, check the color of your oil after a 3K mile oil change and compare, notice how much more black the oil is on a pump gas engine oil change. I'm sending the oil off to Blackstone Labs again and should get my test results in about 2 weeks and I'll post the results again like I did last time.

Will do. The previous E85 analysis came back normal.

I prefer to eat corn not put it in my car. I store my car for the winter. No way will I load the tank up with corn water.

I don't follow this logic. If you're going to store the car for the winter, you either use fuel stabilizer with E85 or you fill the tank with regular gas for the winter.

Given this, why are you changing it so soon?

Recommended by tuner to change oil at 3k. Who knows how long it can go? My opinion is that it can go much longer but oil isnt that expensive so why take a chance?

And just because the oil is clean, doesn't mean that the additive package is still good.

Blackstone rules!

Agreed, but my last Blackstone analysis showed a TBN of 3.6 at the same 3K mile oil change interval on E85. The report says 1.0 is low and I don't know how many miles it would have taken me to get there. I also don't know what a typical TBN is for a gas Hellcat engine using the same PUP oil at 3k mile oil change interval, maybe the TBN would be higher, maybe the same.

Keep in mind, my car is a daily driver and often very short trips. I drive to work and home and around town here and there, but most of my trips are 20 minutes of driving or less which I would think would actually cause more wear than a highway driven vehicle.

Doesn't really answer your question, but it's at least a reference point.

Yep, looks like the TBN is higher on gas. You're average is in the low 7's. Makes sense that tuners recommend changing the oil more frequently on E85 which I have no issue doing so. The point I've tried to make using E85 vs gas is that the fuel burns so much cleaner thus not contaminating the oil and the engine internals with carbon buildup. If you've ever seen pictures of an engine that has been run on E85 for a long while, all the internals are clean, valves and pistons are typically spotless with little to no carbon buildup. I rarely have even a trace of black soot on my exhaust tips. The exhaust tips on my wife's 2017 Hellcat Charger though are black within a week after a car wash.

Yeah, but check the change intervals though....

My bad, I misread the oil change on unit instead of the oil. I noticed a few were around 2900 to 3600, that was the actual mileage of the vehicle though.

Who's car is that, yours? Did you change your oil every couple hundred miles?

That being said, its still inconclusive with more data from a 3k mile oil change. With only a few hundred miles on the oil, I would expect the TBN to be high.

Mine.

6months and/or after The Colorado Mile.

The facts are out there. Many high end manufacturers void the warranty if E85 is used. Good enough for me to stay away from it.

If the vehicle is certified flex fuel that is literally impossible to do with any legality at all.

Now...if your vehicle had to be tuned for use of E85 fuel...your vehicle warranty is void anyways...

The pros and cons are well documented either way.

Looks like oil will fall out of viscosity range way before contamination becomes a problem.

Here, knock yourselves out!

It was not even manufactured for E85! It was years ago, before everyone really "believed" in the corn juice. The internal parts were incredible looking (GOOD), VS things that run on regular petroleum.

The myths are out there for sure, but of course the factory warranty will be void if you use anything other than what the manufacturer recommends, that goes without saying though.

P.U.P. runs at the bottom end of this range "new", but you're right, that and the "TBN"
