Fwiw I played around with it a little one summer and my car ran identical times and mph at the drag strip with Shell 91 (90/10) versus 91 ethanol free which cost about .50 more per gallon. I live at a mile high so our octane ratings are lower.
What id be interesting in seeing is the fuel trims with both

Fuel trims will shift. I tested it but it was a long time ago and I have forgotten by how much.

I run whatever premium is at a station easy to get to, and 93 octane. My car is stock, will remain stock...and will never see the track.
It runs fine. Same with the 300C.

I filled the truck with Sunoco 87 before leaving for land speed trials. Halfway I stopped at a rest area and filled with Citgo 87. Hour from the destination I filled with Irving 87. I'd swear the truck ran better on Irving. On Rt 1, I even passed a truck pulling a trailer with a 26T excavator (I had the HC in tow). After that, all I could think of was this thread.....

AFAIK, the lowest octane that doesn’t pull timing to prevent knock is optimal.

If you all remember back in the day when they introduced the Taurus SHO with the 4 valve Yamaha engine... It produced more hp on 87 than 93. As you all know, octane slows burning. I never heard of any engine before or after doing that, something I will never forget.

Must of had low compression or crazy cam events.
