Thinking about buying a trailer that can carry the HC. I have a 2023 F-150 5.0 400/410. I know I should have bought a 3/4t but that ship has sunk.

Other than short local trips, towing would be 1-2 times a year 400mi each way mostly highway to Land Speed Trials. Looking at a 10k tilt trailer, so gvr should be just under 8k with the HC. I would like to avoid a WD hitch if that is reasonable.

I am not looking for recommendations posted on the internet, I am looking for those with actually did it to share their thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

Is that a Ram 1500? And didn't you just sell an enclosed trailer?
These were before them. 1500.

2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the tow package. Tow my Hellcat and soon to be race car all the time. No problems at all. I have a Sloane Kwik load tilt trailer and love it. Highly recommend a winch, put it in neutral and let the winch do the heavy work. I keep my battery topped up with a Solar Panel, works like a charm!

What trailer was that and how was it to tow?

I only went a couple of hours but it pulled really well. They've really gone up in price and stopped making the 24' model.

Now I would go with an ez load aluminum.

That wasn't and you have raise the nose to clear the splitter.

Do you know the weight of the trailer? The 10k tilt trailers I am looking at are 3100#. I have seen some 10k trailers under 2k# but no tilt.

It's about 2250. Sold it to a friend of mine. He's pulled it up and down the east coast going to mshs events. Never a problem.

Yeah, that's part of the decision. Non-tilts save about 1k#. Thanks.

How about aluminum weights?

Make sure you get the good axles and the door clears the fender.

I looked into that:
1. Alum tilts are very expensive and no used for sale.
2. Alum welds anneal the material so the affected zone around every weld is a weak spot. I do not weld alum but I can weld steel so I can repair a steel trailer.
3. I live in the north. I can't use an alum trailer in winter.

Alum trailers save about 700# on equivalent steel trailers, plus 50% more cost. I am hoping to find a bargain on a used and there are few used alum avail and no used alum tilts. A new alum tilt costs 2x more than a 2 year old used steel tilt. Thus far, seems like the 700# penalty is worth the $6k saving,

But your suggestion is exactly the info that helps me make the best decision, thanks!

I towed with both a basic open and 20’ basic enclosed with my 1500. You do not need a tilt. Raceramps to extend the ramps for loading and a winch. I never drive my car in or out of the trailer. It’s safe with zero risk of fkn it up and gives you the capability to load the car if it breaks. It’s a one man job. I’m out west where the roads go up and down (grade south of Vegas is 17 miles long). 64A6BE18-6362-457D-A70E-2BC38F02D592.jpeg

My 18' (technically 17.5') 10k Featherlite is 1585# I only bought it for when I want an open trailer behind our 40' pusher. My real point though is I towed the road runner all over the place prior to that with a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 and it did well and that was with an older steel 18' tilt trailer. Most modern 1500 should have no issue towing what you want to tow.

Good info. No WD hitch?
