Rims and tires fit wonderfully. Since I have 2.62 gears, I like that they're a tad shorter than stock. Tomorrow I get to take them to the track to see if they improve my 60 for times. More to come.

I didn't do very good. I spun every time. I was hoping I wouldn't need a big burnout, so I just rolled through the water and spun them enough to clean them off. That's just not going to get it done. The track manager told me it was extra sticky... NOT. I'm gonna have to go back to the drawing board.

I measured the new tires at 27 1/4 inches. Stock is 28. Not a big difference, but the Mickey Thompsons with the same metric measurements as the stock tires were 29.

You're spinning on those??? Are you just flat footing it off idle or getting into the converter and standing on the brake/gas at the same time and rolling out?

I'm leaving at 1400 rpm or so. Just enough to get the slack out of the driveline. I'm trying to roll into it, but obviously not doing a good enough job.

I managed a 1.54 60' with 305s. I guess I just had too much wishful thinking on these. Next time, I will be doing a lot more burnout with them. They weren't sticky at all.

With the 305s, 4000 rpm was enough to get some smoke rolling. Taking it easy on these didn't work. I'll have to get into it more.

Sorry you were spinning that sucks , you'll figure it out , I do think in general the Nitto DR's need more of a burnout than the M/T's need.
What tire psi did you have ?
I normally run 20>22 psi depending on track prep.

My manual guage said 18 psi and the tpms said 21. I need a quality manual guage. I've read where MTs can run down towards 14 or 15. DA was 3000, so not good.

Cold tires will never stick to the track. Nittos need a huge burnout to get sticky.

MT drag radials should be 20 to 18 psi. Always start with 20 and then if the track is not holding 20, go to 19, 18.5 and then 18.
If 18 does not stick with a big burnout...leave and find a good track. lol

Also, a lot of us will be at Rockingham, NC next weekend. It was supposed to the Hemi Shootout, but will be a private track rental for just $100. Come by and race and we will help you setup your car.

Friday when? You mean running on Friday, or just arriving and drinking beer?

That is a pretty serious tire. I think it is likely you can just stomp the throttle wide open and dead hook on a well prepped surface. But you MUST get a solid burnout and get the tire pressure right. I had the 305/40R18's ET STREET SS on my Hellcat and I could dead hook on marginal prep. It has nearly the same sidewall as your tire and was quite a bit narrower. MT DOT Drag radials should use 14 to 18 PSI HOT. Yes you can use 20 PSI if you have 350 horse power. Yes you can use 20 psi if you have a race radial slick that is designed to run that pressure. Yes you will be SLIGHTLY faster running the most pressure that you can RELIABLY hook, but you CAN go down to 14 HOT if needed. But this tire on your car needs to be 14 to 16 HOT. SO, set them at 15 before your first run and get them to roll smoke for 4 seconds. That should give you 16 HOT and be a good starting point. I do my burnout in manual to control wheel speed. But if you leave it in drive you have to watch the throttle closely to maintanin wheel speed and not over do it by letting the shift up to 5th gear or something.

I put the car in manual and then boot the throttle and the car will force a shift to second and then the rest of my burnout is in second gear at high rpm, like 5500 to 6000. If you are not aggressive then you will have to pull the right paddle to shift it to second or third if you prefer. Once you see good smoke count to 4 and then release the brake and ease way up on the throttle and drive the burnout forward and let the tires recover (grab). PUT CAR BACK IN AUTO, then stage.

If the car hooks, then you can let the tires pressure increase naturally up twoards 18. Just check and equalize them immediately after each run when you get back to your pit or staging lanes. If it spins, re adjust back to 14, 15, or 16 as needed HOT. If the car sits and the pressure has dropped a little too low, I many times just extend my burnout to get the pressure back up, since I am lazy and do not want to break out the air compressor. If the car does not hook at 16 HOT then you need to try lower pressures like 15 or 14 and extend the burnout some.

I am arriving Thursday night and getting a hotel and then the track opens Friday for racing.

Let me check if we are racing on Saturday as well.

Well, the weather forecast does not look for outdoor sports. Most of the Southeast will be wet, wet, wet this weekend.

Let's see what the next 48 hours holds.

Is it safe to assume you'll be running tomorrow since today is a washout?

DRAGRCR, thanks for all the details. That all makes perfect sense to me, and will use your technique with manual shifting, but will probably go to third instead of staying in 2nd. Hopefully this monsoon lets up so we can race tomorrow.

I would look into the MT ET DRAG R, not the street ss, compound and design is much better for the initial hook.
