If I recall it was Mobil 1 that was able to get their blended synthetic to be called a full synthetic and is why you don't see "true" full synthetic oils in the stores. They ruined it in my opinion because when this happened castrol GTX was a true synthetic and since Mobil got away with the less they changed

Yes, believe it was group III base oils that can be labeled as synthetic.
