I found this forum to be very helpful when I was looking to get back into the market for 'protection':
https://www.rdforum.org/

A lot of your decision needs to be based on what devices/methods are used in your area (state + any localities you frequent), how & where you drive etc.

I snagged a couple DFR7's as they were being closed out for $130 - quite a bargain for what they are & the features they have.
I have been pleased with their performance, but live in a semi rural area and don't have to contend with much laser, instant-on, speed camera's etc.
I do have to be on high alert (and not drive @ warp speed) when I stray into the more populated areas (Tampa, Orlando etc.), but that is very infrequent.

No R7 experience. Currently using the Max360, which has done a good job. Prior, have always been a Valentine man, Gen 1 only though.

Curious if the Gen 2 Valentine is indeed better than the Gen 1. They were high quality, loved the look & interface, but they wouldn't shut up. Beeping all the time when near cars with radar cruise and safety options in their mirrors.

Max360 does a good job of filtering and not "crying wolf". I like the directional arrows. It is like many others, a bit plastic but much lighter than the V1.

V1 Gen2 owners...whaz up? Did they address the falses? I stopped using them because they were like driving with some of my old girlfriends...I had to tune them out so I could concentrate on the road

I've been using Waze for a couple of years and here in PA it has been a blessing. Lots of folks using and accurate "heads up" notifictaions.

I'm still rockin the Uniden R3. Really can't complain about the unit. I did a firmware upgrade which was easy and unit seems even better now. Always signals me way ahead and when I see Ka pop up I slow down lol.

Well,,, hell. I just got busted last Sat and writing the company to pay for my ticket, which they will. Rocky Mountain Radar Co. I bought one when the scramblers came out 20 years ago and never, ever had a problem. Until>> Got the H/C 2 years ago for 1 reason,, haul ass. 3 evenings a week I take US 19 between Clearwater and Pine Apple Park. About 6 mile stretch turn around at Quacker Snake and Gube. Hot rod drive thru and back. But last Sat evening saw a solid black Challenger in the emergency lane blacked out winders like mine. No thoughts till he pulled behind me and took him a good 10 miles before he took up behind me. Apparently not a H/C but 30 differentaly lights going off. I usually run it up between 120 and 140. He said he clocked me at 90 but him and I knew I was going alot faster than that. Cut me a break for not reckless driving. Tow your car in. Jail. Ticket says see the judge. This detector/ scrambler I purchased for $300 works, so said, up to 5 miles away. Well no go on this show. I have another one that have never had a problem but the new improved did not work. Red Eye friend, Rico, from the beach gyms with a St. Pete cop and said they just came out with a new radar of sorts. I got the scrambler for instant on. I dated a DEA agent and she had a radar/ K, KA, whatever else. Her and I tested Itold one, numerous times and it worked. But now?? They must have sumtin new out the scrambler does not work on. I have to see the Judge. so, they have sumtin new out.

V1s for me. Very good range, hardly any false alarms, and maybe most importantly, it tells me where the signal is coming from.

Thought this one did also. Going to email and call Monday and find out why this did not work. I have 3 points and have gone to school a few times and maybe in a bit of trouble with this. Maybe maxed out on school and everytime I get a burp on driving Fl yanks my license. Say I am not mentally capable of operating a motor vehicle. Before investing alot of $$$ in one, I would do the home work. License may get pulled again. 4th time.

Valentine 1, have four of them and all updated to the new Gen 2 specs.

The only time I have received a ticket is when I forgot to put V1 in the on mode.

Probably saved me about 50 tickets and well worth the price.

Since V1 patent expired a lot of copy cats.

How annoying is the beeping though and can the v2 work properly without hooking up your phone?? this is the main reason I don't want to purchase a Valentine.

Mine used to pick up other vehicles, especially tractor trailers, but the newer ones are really good at weeding the false signals out. Of course, I have all three of mine set to the next highest level of ignoring signals.

And now to my ignorance: What the heck does the Valentine have to do with my phone?
I don't necessarily have the phone on when driving the 'Cat, since I prefer to concentrate on driving, and the Valentine still picks up any threats just fine.

Will be interesting to hear what it is ! Wonder if they are frittering around with Ku, which is used outside the US quite a bit but has never gained ground here.
I have read some places are tapping into K band freq's that are used by BSM/ACC & auto drive systems since those of us that run with protection either turn off scanning of those segments or have them heavily filtered.

I run no detector at all. Haven't in years. Generally do not get tickets. About how you drive and how you come across to the cops when the stop happens.

Ahhh, the simpler days when all you had to worry about was X-band, VASCAR and a cop 'pacing' you !

None, head on a swivel. Has worked so far, zero speeding tickets. To be fair, once a lidar gun gets you, it's over. If they detect you jamming the signal, it's over (and yes they know).

Actually, there is a technique to running with a jammer & you need to be on your game. Basically brake hard at the 1st pip from the jammer (since there is no 'lead time' like with radar) & shut it off so they can get a reading on you pretty quick, but at a significantly reduced speed. Too slow, and they assume you have a jammer (which may or may not be legal depending on the state).
