I remember that many sat on the dealership lots for a couple of years. Many times on the back lot. Some dealers removed the nose to try and sell them.
You could buy 1 pretty cheap after a couple of years sitting there.

I had a chance to buy a dark blue Daytona, (440 with the 727) from Mr. Norm's in 1975. Since I was looking for a pony car, I declined.

It was just another used car at the time.

You could still car it stock car racing. Doors, same basic drive train configuration, engines that were available in some form somewhere in the manufacturer’s lineup. Not like a V8 rear drive Camry.
Most folks I knew were fans of makes rather than celebrity drivers.

I know NASA had at least a couple of Superbirds as they were the only vehicle to watch high speed taxi's on SR71 Blackbirds.

I don't recall the price. Whatever it was, I thought it was way too much for a car that you couldn't give away at the time.

They also had a stripper 68 or 69 Road Runner. Are you ready...... black, 426, 4-spd, bench seat, drum brakes, no options. Obviously, someone originally spec'd it out as a race car. I never asked the price on that one. Being a car that I couldn't stop or turn, it didn't appeal to me.

They also had some other assorted Dusters, Darts, and such.

Our next door neighbor had one & I would spend hours just looking at it.

I remember riding my bike to the Plymouth dealer on Woodward and wandering the lot checking out the Superbirds sitting unsold
Would still love to own one, but prices have gone totally insane !
