Something keeps popping up in my mind, so I thought I’d throw it out there. Do you think with the Redeye that Dodge will do away with the 707hp Hellcat? I just think it makes more sense financially to only produce one version. Thoughts?

Subjects been talked about a bit lately. Someone started a thread about a hellcat Durango and someone else said they wondered if they'd make a RE version. I then responded with the same answer you just wrote almost word for word but added Hellcat prices would prob tank dramatically also.
Why would they tool up for both?

Regular old Charger Hellcats are still 707 for '20. Only the Daytona version is rated at 717, although that's really just trickery in how it's measured.

They have got to come out with an answer to the GT 500 so I predict more HP.

Last year I would've replied "agree", "like", "winner", but with the new merger with Peugeot and all the pressure from electrics and shifting attitudes, not really sure what road they're gonna turn down. They have made a TON of money on muscle so I'm sure they're contemplating a move.

Environmental virtue signaling is starting to have a negative economic impact up here. I'd imagine some sobering up is going to occur. Viability.

As for 707/717/797+, only incremental changes until the next wave of cars. The V8 isn't going away - but, maybe PD blower induced torque is.

New tech aint cheap. I also have a negative connotation with turbos. I remember in the late 70's to mid/late eighties they had very bad reliability. Bearings with no lubrication. Out of oil lube one second...Toast. They ran HOT. And plumbing as now is a nightmare. I know ultimately they make more power and are more efficient, but I just don't go crazy for'm. Good old PD. Plop it on and instant torque immediately. No plumbing, nowhere near the heat issues. And that RE whine/ whistle is addicting. LOL. Then there's electric......

Batteries Batteries Batteries. If that new green deal kicks in you can kiss your V8 goodbye boys and girls. Oh did I say those batteries are going to be charged by the windmill in your yard? What are all those dead birds doing in your yard?

Hellcat engine is here to stay due to powertrain on non Redeye vehicles. But that’s not to say the Redeye powertrain won’t make a friend soon.
